We spend LOTS of time writing! We love learning about basic writing conventions. One of the fun games we play is "Correct Miss Missy's mistakes." I write sentences with spelling, grammar, and spacing errors, and the students correct them for me.
In December, we wrote letters to soldiers and veterans through the Operation Gratitude Campaign. The students enjoyed telling the soldiers and veterans about themselves and also enjoyed drawing pictures and telling jokes to make them laugh!
We LOVE the entire series of Mo books! We have read them all! We enjoy turning them into plays as well as making sports-themed books about them.
We love to read and express ourselves through writing and putting on plays. From the very first week of school, we began reading simple books and learning how to retell stories through the production of plays. We created simple sets and costumes, memorized lines, and did some amazing improvisation, too! We also used this opportunity to talk about how all feelings are safe and how we are, by design, resilient and strong.
Who doesn't love Monster Trucks!! We spent two weeks doing monster truck math, reading, writing, researching, and arts & crafts. It was a hit! And, of course, we ended our unit with the creation and construction of an actual mini-monster truck obstacle course outside. We had all kinds of races with Hot Wheels trucks.
